The Rishis of ancient India brought forth the hatha yoga asanas in preparation for meditation, to ready and prepare the body for quiet, still and interiorized union with God. This ancient practice of uniting one with God through a variety of asanas and pranayama has been popularized in the west as a highly beneficial physical form of exercise due to the numerous physical benefits. The definition of yoga is union with God and hatha yoga was designed as a means of stilling and quieting the restlessness in the body. Therefore, when one sat for meditation, one’s mind and body would be calm and peaceful.
Yoga assists individuals in experiencing the purity of the Soul as it is, a reflection of God through this quiet interiorization. Our goal in hatha yoga is to keep our awareness and breath in a balanced and inwardly focused state in order that we can move through each asana as a meditation in movement. This allows the asana to do what it was designed to do in purifying our mind and body towards higher consciousness in order to awaken kundalini in the spine and ultimately to achieve enlightenment. We can honor that tradition of using each posture and asana to surrender our yoga practice to the Divine and allow ourselves the higher purpose of these asanas which are designed to bring us deeper and become more expanded into the arms of God.
As we interiorize our awareness, some individuals are able to sense and see the subtle energies already existing and flowing through the body, as streams of light moving through our meridians and chakras. As we are guided to bring our attention and consciousness within, we will focus our attention towards these already existent beams of light. These beams of light will direct us to areas that are holding energies that have been held in a particular body part, organ or tissue, as we engage with each asana. These energies are communicating to us what is needed in this particular area. During the yoga therapy session, I will guide you in how to listen to the body, to these energies, as a way of befriending your body and the areas in need of relief. It is a gentle process of acknowledging what is arising in the moment and bringing light, breath and spaciousness to the area.
I am offering yoga therapy to assist clients in utilizing simple yoga asanas to open the heart and transform energy in the body towards the goal of higher consciousness. It is a time to invite the heart to open, expand and surrender to the Divine that we might deepen in our own inner light and awaken in Self Realization. Simultaneously, physically we are strengthening our core and establishing a strong and rooted base to Mother Earth. In so doing, we are aligning ourselves as channels of Divine Energy and Light to flow to others in the world.
If you feel a calling to participate with me in a yoga therapy session, feel free to contact me and we can discuss your needs and schedule a time for you. Yoga therapy sessions usually last approximately 1 hour.
